The Mussel Dress

The first garment started yet last completed in TABLE TALES. Real shells, individually drilled, glazed, and hand-stitched onto deadstock fabric. Blue mussels, oysters, and scallops from Marie-Louise's childhood shell collection given permanent form.

At 14 kilograms, this dress requires a three-person team to put on. It is a couture art piece that pushes the boundaries between fashion and sculpture.

Materials: Real shells (blue mussels, oysters, scallops), deadstock raw cotton

Technique: Drilling, glazing, hand-stitching

Production time: 300 hours of detailed handwork
